Safety, Respect and Responsibility: My Mantra

Dear Sutton Families,

The new school year is almost upon us.  I am hopeful for an exciting, rewarding and challenging year for your child.  I also hope that you will join us in celebrating your child’s successes and near successes all year long. I welcome your support and appreciate your involvement.

It is very exciting for me to be taking the helm at Sutton Elementary for what I hope will be a long lasting relationship with the students, teachers and parents of this community.  It is my hope that together we can recognize the goodness in all children, celebrate the academic efforts, and praise good behavior while supporting and encouraging those with less than good behavior.  I believe that all students want to do well, to please parents and teachers and ultimately feel good about themselves.  I want every child at Sutton Elementary to feel good coming to school.

It is with that sentiment in mind that I will emphasize three basic tenets at school: SAFETY, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY.  All school rules can fall under one of these categories.  It is one of my goals to reintroduce these words to all children at the start of the year and reinforce what each word means by adult and student modeling. During an early assembly, I will encourage all students to imagine what each word might look like, i.e. What would a student be doing if he/she were practicing safety in the hallway?

Posters will appear around the school promoting the three tenets.  I will look to “catch” students exhibiting safe, respectful and responsible behaviors.

Positive discipline will be in place as I continue to applaud efforts toward safe, respectful and responsible behavior.

I look forward to meeting you this fall.

Sincerely,

Michael D. Breault
