Breault
When
the dogs bite, when the bees sting,
When I’m feeling sad,
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad.
The
words go something like that. My
favorite things are not the ones mentioned in the rest of the song, however.
I
enjoy students aching for vacation. Nothing miserable in mind here, but the
students who realize they have worked hard and need a break-- a long break to
renew the spirit and clear the mind of any brain muddle
(a
blip, or misstep, a faux-pas ) from the past year.
These
“muddles” may have included but not be limited to
1)having to lunch with Mr. Breault, 2) not really
wanting to do homework but wishing you had the next morning, 3)having to lunch
again with Mr. Breault, 4) knowing the rule about tackle football outside but
“forgetting” once (or twice), 5) having to listen to Mr. Breault talk about
homework, football, or having lunch with him.
Those
muddles for my kiddoes may be some of my favorite things. I don’t apologize for being soft for safe
play, respectful behavior, or responsible students who complete their
assignments. But I thoroughly enjoy
those students who still need my direction for making a better decision the
next time.
Before
the long summer break, the spring weather always brings more muddles. The office can get crowded with students
needing to dine with me, almost prompting a need for a “No Vacancy” sign!
Spring
suggests that not only we see greener grass but we will also see students who
are aware that this year is almost done, and a new season awaits them, with new
challenges, new muddles, new teachers, new dining companions. This makes some nervous, excited and prone
to making poor decisions.
Dining
reservations accepted with a smile.
