“Taking
Flight” by Michael D. Breault
“Come to the edge, he said.
We are afraid.
Come to the edge.
They came.
He pushed them
And they flew.” Guillaume Appolinaire
I
have always been a risk-taker. From my
classroom experiences at all levels to my eventual transition to
administration, it has been my thirst for more knowledge that has prompted lots
of changes (none that I regret).
I
do have a tendency to push students and staff to new levels of thinking,
(keeping in mind that change is not easy for everyone) trying a new strategy,
setting a realistic goal, collaborating in a new way. It’s important for the “pushed” student to realize that I
wouldn’t be asking anything that I wouldn’t do myself.
I
want your child to be an active learner, to comfortably seek change, ask
questions, and push the limits of what he/she thinks they can do. Your child will need confidence in their
abilities and parents and teachers who believe that children can do just about
anything they want to do. I will push
their thinking just as their classroom teachers will challenge them with daily
routines, encouraging critical thinking, fluent reading, and creative
writing. Your child may be afraid at
first because change can be scary, but the results can be so rewarding and the
learning so much deeper.
I
am learning new things already in just three months on the job! I have come to the edge, pushed myself, hoping for a continued smooth flight in the
future.
The
staff here at Sutton Elementary wishes the same for your child.
