Course Description:

The anatomy course will give students an understanding of the human body, how it functions, and how to maintain it. Students will investigate organization of the body, the various systems, and their interdependence. Developing an understanding of how the body works will help students make responsible decisions about their health and safety. This information will identify risk factors allowing them to make informed decisions. The skills from this course will help students work toward improving their health and well being of themselves, their families, their friends, and society.

Course Objectives:

1.      Students will explain how major organ system function, identify anatomy, and the disease process.

2.      Students can describe how functional units of individual systems within humans are integrated to maintain homeostasis.

3.      Students examine how they make decisions and weigh the probable consequences of their actions.

4.      Students will develop a clearer understanding of their personal and social responsibilities by acting on accurate information to improve health in their communities.

5.      Students will recognize decisions that all individuals will make with respect to their bodies in daily living and identify the relationships among actions, conduct and wellness.

 

 

 

Student Expectations:

1.      All students are required to have a 1 ½- 2 inch binder with subject dividers and

paper to serve as a notebook/ portfolio.  Work must be organized in the binder by topics. All work including homework must be kept in the binder. Students are also required to have a set of colored pencils.  A three-hole notebook punch would be helpful but is not required.

2.      Students will enter the class prior to the bell, prepared to work with supplies and completed homework assignments.

3.      Students are responsible for work missed when absent from class. This includes homework, tests, quizzes, etc. They must make arrangements with the teacher the day they return to get the work completed within a reasonable amount of time. Upon request

work will be sent home.

4.      It is the student’s responsibility to turn in all assignments on time. Late work will not be

accepted nor will you receive any credit, unless arrangements are made in advance. Partial credit is not given for late work.

5.      Extra help sessions are available for students to make up work or clarify information.  Sessions are usually available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please speak with me in advance so that I know you are planning to see me.

6.      Students will keep the classroom free from defacement of books, supplies, walls, desks, and floors. Food and drinks (with the exception of water) are not allowed in the classroom.

7.      Students are expected to be respectful and supportive of all members of the class.

8.      Attendance and tardy guidelines will follow the Sutton High School Handbook in

policy and consequences.

 

Grading Policy:

Grades will be based on a variety of assessments. Each will be assigned a point value based on the assignment. The value of each assignment will be stated. 

The assessments will include…

-         tests, quizzes, homework, projects, class activities (80%)

-         binder/portfolio evaluation (10%)

-         class participation / cooperation (10%)

 Students are encouraged to keep a record of the assignment and the grade received.
