Bienvenue! Welcome to French III! In this course you will expand the previous French vocabulary and conversational skills through discussions based on selected reading. While the main emphasis will be on Speaking, other language skills will be developed further.

Objectives
By the end of French III, you will be able to use the target language to communicate fluently in various situations. You will also be able to read authentic selections which will develop your critical thinking and allow for a vocabulary expansion in context. The introduction of more sophisticated verb tenses such as the conditional and the subjunctive will help you become aware of their particular usage and subsequently write correctly in French. In addition to the textbook, we will be using a variety of speaking and writing activities such as conversations, role-playing activities, projects, and written activities.
General Classroom Guidelines

The success of any language program depends upon the consistent use of the foreign language in the classroom. Students are expected to participate in class in an active and constructive manner. French will be used as the language of instruction and discussion in this class.
La promptitude
Lateness is not acceptable. Students are expected to arrive in class on time and prepared for class. Late assignments receive "0"credit.
Supplies
Three ring-binder, divided into sections for vocabulary; grammar; homework; quizzes and tests; hand-outs. This binder is to be used exclusively for French.
Grading/assessment
· Homework 15%

Les devoirs
Written assignments are often from the Travaux pratique de grammaire. All assignments will be reviewed in class. I will also assign certain other activities to be written and handed in. Late homework assignments receive "0"credit.15% of the grades will be based upon homework.
Les interrogations
Quizzes are a means of encouraging consistent daily preparation. Quizzes may be given at any time, without prior announcement.30% of your grade will be based upon your quiz average.
Les examens
There will be several tests per marking period. Tests will
be announced at least one week in advance and will be scheduled after
consultation with students.30% of your grade will be based upon your
test average.
Les absences
If a student is absent for one or two days, he/she should contact a classmate for homework assignments. If the absence is more prolonged, please contact the school for assignments. Assignments are due upon your return to class.
La participation
Class participation is an essential part of acquiring another language. Students who demonstrate strong active participation will have appropriate responses to teacher and student-initiated questions, constructive participation in paired and group activities, voluntary participation in skits, reading, and other activities. Students will good passive participation will be attentive to lessons and discussions, show a respectful and positive attitude in listening to others, and demonstrate careful note taking. An average of both passive and active participation will count as 25% of your quarter grade.
