Honors Chemistry Syllabus

Mr. Howard

Sutton Memorial High School

Room: 207

Description: Honors chemistry assists students in the mastery of matter and the chemical changes it goes through.  Upon completion of the course, students will have a clear understanding of the history of chemistry, explored the uses of chemistry in various careers, gained an ability to interpret chemical equations, and problems related to personal needs and social issues, and an understanding of laboratory safety.  To achieve these goals, about 20% of class time will be spent in the laboratory.

Course Goal: The goal of this course is primarily to prepare students for college chemistry or AP Chemistry. In addition I prefer to describe this course as “learning to think using chemistry as a tool”. My job is not always to provide students with answers but to stimulate questions and instill a desire to explore and be curious about the world around them.
