¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español IV! In this course you will be expanding your previous Spanish vocabulary, grammar and culture introduced in Spanish III. We are going to use the language to read, write, listen, speak--live in the Spanish language. This course will begin with an extensive overview of grammar by finishing the Ven conmigo Level III textbook. After successfully completing the Ven conmigo, level III text we will move on to Nuevas Vistas, curso uno which uses readings to include grammar, essential phrases, culture and literary concepts in order to complete our Spanish experience. Literary elements to be studied:
- Biografias, autobiografias (narracion)
- Punto de vista, ironia
- Mitos, leyendas, la exposición (especulación-causa/efecto)
- Drama-persuasión (evaluación)
- Poesía-problemas y soluciones
- Hacer un resumen (articulo informativo)

Objectives
By the end of Spanish IV,
you will be able to use the target language to speak and write about people,
things, and events in many different tenses.
As a student of Spanish IV, you will be able to effectively write in the
target language while analyzing the literary concept you will be using. You will be reading, revising, defending,
and evaluating written work by Spanish-speaking authors as well as the work of
your peers. We will be using a variety
of newspaper and magazine articles, music, and videos to aid in our goal of
learning the Spanish language and subsequent culture. Presentations, journal entries, projects, conversations, skits
and readings will also be assigned to allow you to demonstrate your personal
understanding of the topics discussed.

Please bring the following with you to each class:
- Textbook (Nuevas vistas, curso uno)
- Pen or pencil
- Notebook or Binder
- Folder (for organizing handouts)
- A positive attitude
- Spanish/English Dictionary

- Homework/Outside work 25%
Please Remember!
- Arrive on time and
prepared to work. (Bring all necessary materials.)
- Homework is assigned
nightly and is considered and extension of the work we do in class.
- Extra Help is always
encouraged. I am available Tuesdays
and Thursdays after school. This
time is set aside for make-up work or missed tests and quizzes due to
absences.
- You are responsible for
finding out if you have any missed assignments and completing them in a
reasonable time period. (Homework –
1 day,
Quizzes/Tests - 4 days)
- Course Requirements and
Syllabus may be modified to fit the needs of the class.
- In Spanish IV you will
be challenged with more rigorous materials, please remember to try as best
you can to complete all assignments without the use of any online
translators. It is recommended
that you utilize a Spanish/English Dictionary to aid you with unfamiliar
words and phrases.
