RESPONSIBILITY:

 

Directly responsible to the building principal. She/He assists the building principal to carry out the functions as outlined in the principal’s job description and as assigned by her/him with particular emphasis on the following:

 

STAFF

 

  1. Assists in the recruitment and interviews candidates for the instructional and non-instructional staffs.
  2. Assists in the evaluation of instructional and non-instructional staff members.
  3. Assists in the analysis of performance of instructional staff and develops programs for performance improvement. Supervises staffs to the end of attaining this objective.
  4. Assists to assign teachers within area of maximum capabilities to achieve best possible educational environment for children.
  5. Plans duty roster.
  6. Assists to conduct effective and relevant teachers’ meetings.

 

 

 

 

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

 

  1. Supervises and evaluates phases of the educational program in the building as assigned. Initiates programs and organization within the adopted course of study.
  2. Assists in analysis of the effectiveness of curriculum and, where indicated, recommends changes and in-service curricular activities.
  3. Encourages department heads to suggest and recommend program directions; serves as consultant to various departmental areas.
  4. Maintains close liaison with the middle school.
  5. Sends reports reflecting curriculum plans and progress as requested.
  6. Attends and participates in building meetings. Attends District meetings as requested.
  7. Attends and participates in local, state, and national deliberations as the budget permits.

 

ADMINISTRATION

 

  1. Cooperates as a consultant and advisor to the superintendent.
  2. Assists in requisitioning the appropriate materials to implement the programs of the school.
  3. Shall cause an inventory of books, supplies, and instructional equipment to be kept as assigned.
  4. Helps to compile attendance reports and records as necessary.

 

PLANT

 

  1. Works closely with central office personnel and custodial staff to coordinate the most effective utilization of the building.
  2. Anticipates special needs involving custodial and maintenance staff when they occur.
  3. Pays particular attention to safety and health factors as they relate to the building and is in close touch with the principal in this regard.

 

 

STUDENTS

 

  1. Exercises responsibility for the health and safety of all members of the student body.
  2. Helps to provide leadership for the student body that includes supervision and encouragement for the establishment of an exemplary level of behavior with which all members of the student body can identify.
  3. Works closely with student representatives in order to facilitate the maximum adjustment of all student members of the school.
  4. Assists in organizing and administering the full range of extra-curricular activities within the school.
  5. Assumes responsibility for all disciplinary action that must be effected for the welfare of all students as assigned.
  6. Maintains close contact with parents in order to better understand and communicate with students.

 

 

 

 

PUBLIC RELATIONS

 

Assists the Building Principal to:

 

  1. Maintain close association and liaison with the community.
  2. Provide leadership and direction for parent activities.
  3. Contribute to the overall public relations program of the school district.
  4. Disseminate school information to the community.
  5. Encourage utilization of community resources and personnel by teachers as part of their educational program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Successful teaching experience.
  2. Master’s degree.
  3. Appropriate Administrator’s License as outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Sutton School Committee finds appropriate and acceptable.
