POSITION TITLE:  Director of Curriculum

 

GOALS:

 

  1. The Director of Curriculum shall provide leadership in the ongoing development and improvement of the entire instructional program in the Sutton Public Schools for preschool through grade 12 including the integration of technology as an instructional tool.
  2. He/she shall oversee and coordinate the district-wide standardized testing program, and shall take a lead role in examining, disseminating, interpreting, and utilizing data to improve instruction for all students.
  3. The Curriculum Director shall be responsible for developing and submitting annual grant applications in the entitlement areas of Title IV, Part A, Title V, Title 1, and MCAS remediation, and other instructional grants that may be beneficial to Sutton students.
  4. The Curriculum Director plays a key role in developing, monitoring, and implementing the District Learning Plan (DLP) and ensures that curriculum and instructional goals are consistent with the district’s mission statement and the DLP.

 

DESIRED QUALITIES:

 

  1. Experience in curriculum development and coordination. 
  2. Trained in one of basic curricular content areas: literacy, math, science, and social sciences.
  3. Working knowledge of Department of Education curriculum guidelines and MA Frameworks.
  4. Knowledgeable about what constitutes “best practices” in the area of instruction.
  5. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with teachers and administrators across the district.

 

DUTIES:

 

  1. Serve as an active participating member of the superintendent’s leadership team.
  2. Provide leadership in the ongoing development and improvement of the pre-K through grade 12 curriculum in the Sutton School District.
  3. Analyze instructional programs and materials used in the school district with special attention to scope and sequence for effective learning as prescribed by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  4. Serve as the district’s lead staff member for curriculum studies by initiating teacher curricular content study teams that could lead to a recommendation for adoption of new instructional materials, methods, and professional development programs in Grades K-12.
  5. Upon approval of funding by the school committee, and in conjunction with the principals, oversees the purchase, training, and implementation of new instructional materials in Grades K-12.
  6. Work with building principals and department heads in organizing and coordinating grade level and inter-building meetings in order to effect horizontal and vertical continuity of the district curriculum.

 

 

 

  1. Secure instructional materials such as videos, sample textbooks, and curriculum guides from various sources; effectively display for teacher perusal; distribute to appropriate staff.
  2. Plan, coordinate and supervise an effective district-wide program of in-service training and activities for teachers and relevant school staff.
  3. Works with other administrative staff to on the district’s mentor program for certificated employees in their first three years with the district.
  4. Work with the building principals to develop effective preparatory and remedial programs that will lead to the improvement of student MCAS scores.
  5. Works in concert with other administrative staff to pursue grant opportunities from various public and private sources that will benefit the staff and students of the Sutton School District.
