Manager/Network Administrator
GOAL: To ensure that all computers and related equipment are
maintained in excellent working condition that maximizes uptime and use.
DESCRIPTION:
The Technology Specialist is responsible for ensuring that
all computers, related equipment and the network operate on a reliable and
consistent basis and are maintained in excellent condition in order to maximize
the use of the District’s technology resources for all faculty, staff, and
students. The position requires in-depth technical and user support experience
including training. Due to the extensive range of duties such as creating user
accounts to network maintenance, the ability to prioritize tasks and multi-task
are essential. Experience in a school environment highly desirable. The
Technology Specialist must be able to work independently and in groups and
should be highly organized, responsive, and reliable.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Troubleshoots
and resolves common computer problems including hardware, printer,
software, telecommunications and audio/visual equipment.
- Provides
user support and training in the use of existing and new technologies and
explores alternative information technology solutions.
- Maintains
an accurate inventory of all hardware, software, necessary supplies and
parts needed for repair orders.
- Works
closely with the Network Manager on a variety of tasks including but not
limited to disaster recovery policy, performing and verifying backups,
implementing the District’s Acceptable Use Policy, network documentation,
allocation of network resources.
- Installs,
supports, and maintains new network and server hardware and infrastructure
equipment.
- Performs
routine preventative maintenance including monitoring network security and
Internet use.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Researches,
communicates, coordinates, and implements new technologies, working with
internal IT staff or outside contractors.
- Provides
backup support related to network hardware, software, and system
administration.
- Maintains
and monitors internal and/or external network performance and usage.
- Suggesting
and providing IT solutions to administrative, educational and management
problems.
- Collaborates
with faculty and administration to resolve computer issues, explore new
technologies, and develop and conduct training as needed.
- Ensuring
that all IT equipment complies with industry standards.
- Ensuring
the most cost-effective and efficient use of servers.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A
working knowledge of MAC and PCV operating systems (Windows 2000/XP Pro)
and desktop applications (MS Office 2000/2003/2007.)
- Three
plus years of network administration desirable.
- Excellent
customer service skills with users of varying technical competence.
- Excellent
problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Hands-on
experience implementing and administrating network devices, setting and
maintaining policies and rights/security within a Novell Netware or
Windows Server 2000/2003environment:

and laptop installation and problem resolution in a Windows XP, Macintosh

- Demonstrable
level of competence including:
- A
thorough understanding of the OSI network model, Ethernet, and TCP/IP
networking
- Experience
implementing and administrating common TCP/IP-based services, including
DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, etc.
- Working
knowledge of common network monitoring and security utilities
- Troubleshooting
focused on determining hardware vs. software, hardware vs. firmware,
software vs. operating system, network vs. application/systems, and
patterned vs. non-repeatable problems
- Bachelor’s
degree or comparable experience
- Novell
CNE or CNA desirable
- Windows
MCSE, VMWare or Linux+ desirable
- Ability
to lift, carry, and move all components of PC workstations, servers,
network equipment, peripherals, and other ancillary equipment
- Performs
other duties as required to fulfill primary responsibilities of position.
