Dear Parents,
We are excited to announce that we are able to
expand out Title I reading program to include Kindergarten this year! Research indicates that early intervention
and supplemental support will helps children reach their maximum
potential. Offering Title I reading
support in Kindergarten will enable students to receive additional support in
the basic literacy skills that lay the foundation for becoming proficient
readers. Title I is the largest
federally funded educational program.
Its purpose is to help children succeed in the regular classroom, attain
grade level proficiency, and improve achievement in basic and advanced reading
skills. These accomplishments are made through supplemental instruction
and the increased involvement of parents in their child’s education.
Your child has been selected to participate in the
Title I Reading Program for the 2007-2008 school year. Classroom teachers refer students who they
think will benefit from additional instruction in areas such as, letter
naming/recognition, rhyming, sound sequence and story retelling. They base their recommendation on daily
classroom observation, work habits and performance on formal and informal
assessments.
The Title I Reading teacher will work closely with your child’s classroom teacher and offer additional support in Reading. The Title I program is a combination of in class support and small group pullout.
We are hosting a Title I Parent Informational Meeting Wednesday, October 3rd. We are pleased to offer two sessions in an effort to accommodate more parents’ schedules. There will be one session at 10:00 a.m. and another at 6:30 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the Simonian Center Auditorium.
Parents will have an opportunity to hear a brief presentation about our Title One program and to meet their child’s Title I reading teacher. Complimentary childcare is available for the evening session. All children whose parents attend (either session) will be entered into a free book raffle.
Please complete and return the permission form and
R.S.V.P form, attached to this letter, on or before Monday, October 1st. If you have any questions about this
program, please feel free to me, at (508) 581-1620, extension 3222.
Sincerely,
Tina A. Schirner
Title I Director
