Summer Reading

2008

Dear Students and Parents:

To maintain reading skills taught in our classrooms and to encourage recreational reading, the Sutton Memorial High School English Department is requiring that all SHS students read a minimum of one book over the summer.

Course Requirements:

All students must read a minimum of one book.
Students taking College Prep English must read the first book listed for their appropriate grade level.
Students taking Honors English must read both titles.
Seniors taking Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition are to read the prescribed four books and complete assignments related to the titles.

Assessment:

Summer reading will be assessed during the first week of school.
Students will be assessed in a variety of ways to evaluate their overall comprehension of the books.
Scores will be averaged as a test grade during the first marking period.
The English Department will not provide extensions for students who have not completed reading by the first day of school.
