Although each species has distinct characteristics, all sea turtles share some qualities. They are all air-breathing reptiles that inhabit tropical and subtropical seas around the world. They do not have teeth or external ears (their eardrums are covered by skin). Their sense of smell is excellent and they see much better under water than out of  water. Their shells have many similarities with the exception of the leatherback.

Your task, should you choose to complete it, is:

Become part of a dignified scientific team to help one sea turtle species (that lives in waters surrounding the United States). You will assume one of the following 4 roles: Biologist, Environmentalist, Fisherman / Shrimp Boat Captain, or Concerned Student trying to make a difference.

You will research, evaluate, and identify the threats to its survival, focusing on how human actions have changed the physical environment.

You will come up with ways to help these animals survive and take a stand on whether or not humans should take responsibility for savings this particular species.

Lastly, you will present your findings to the class in the form of a Power Point Presentation or a Newspaper with your findings. You are all contributing writers.
